FREE SOFTWARE TO RUN COMPUTER FASTER

10 Jul 2012 10:05 PM | Hot Guy (Administrator)

In the first 2 weeks of May 2012 when I was designing my www.GoHotMoney.com website, I did not have problems with my computer browsing speed. When I bought my computer, it has the Internet Explorer already installed. But when I designed my website, I downloaded the following free browser programs to view my website in different browsing environment:

  • Google Chrome (this is already my default browser instead of the Internet Explorer)
  • Safari
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Opera

I preferred using the Google Chrome browser because of the following features:

  • The previous one or more websites that I viewed before the computer shutdown are restored on the Google Chrome screen when I turn on the computer. This save me time by not reloading the websites.
  • Google Chrome browser pops up the message: “KILL PAGES” or “WAIT” every time a website is not responding.
  • Google Chrome displays all my user names when I type on the Sign in box the first 3 letters of my user names. It saves me time by just clicking the correct user name.

In June 2012, I encountered a lot of delays in preparing my blog articles because some programs were running behind the scene. For example, a blog article that I can prepare in one hour took me almost 4 hours to finish. In between, I kept on performing one or all of the following activities hoping to speed up my browsing:

  • I clicked on Internet Option to delete temporary files (8 or 10 times in a 7-hour computer session).
  • If the above step did not speed up my computer, I turned off my computer, then turned it on again (3 or 4 times in a 7-hour computer session).

Free Software on the Rescue

I was shopping at a Walmart store and saw a computer magazine displayed in the magazine shelf. I opened the pages and saw an article on how to make a computer run faster. The article author recommended the CCleaner, a free software that will clean the clutters in one's computer to make the computer runs faster. When I reached home, I turned on my computer and searched for CCleaner and was directed to http://www.piriform.com.

According to the website, CCleaner has the following features:

  • It supports almost all the operating systems: Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2008-R2, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003, Mac OSX 10.5 or 10.6 and other browsers (K-Meleon, Rockmelt, Flock, Google Chrome Canary, Chromium, SeaMonkey, Chrome Plus, SRWare Iron, Pale Moon, Phoenix, Netscape Navigator, Avant and Maxthon).
  • It removes all unused files from the hard drive disk.
  • It cleans traces of online activities such as the Internet history and temporary files.
  • It runs less than a second to clean the hard drive clutters.
  • It does not contain any spyware or adware.
  • It does not display any advertisements on your computer screen.
  • It is free, not on a 30-day trial basis.
  • It is automatically updated when you run the CCleaner once a week or month. Just click the CCleaner icon displayed on the Desktop when you want to clean your hard drive disk and the program will be automatically updated. You do not have to uninstall the old version.

When you run the CCleaner program and you have different browsers in your computer, the CCleaner will clean and delete unused files such as the following:

  • Internet Explorer – temporary files, history, cookies, super cookies, autocomplete form history, index.dat files
  • Google Chrome – temporary files, history, cookies, super cookies, download history, form history
  • Opera – temporary files, history, cookies, super cookies, download history
  • Safari - temporary files, history, cookies, super cookies, download history
  • Windows – recycle bin, recent documents, temporary files, log files, clipboards, DNS cache, error reporting, memory dumps, jump lists
  • Third-party Applications – temporary files and recent file lists from many applications including Windows Media Player, eMule, Google Toolbar, Microsoft Office, Nero, Adobe Acrobat, WinRAR, WinAce, WinZip and many more

To effect the downloaded CCleaner program, I turned off my computer and then, turned it on again. I immediately noticed how fast the Google Chrome browser opened and displayed the previous 3 websites that I was viewing. Then, when I tried to access my Google account, I just entered the first 2 letters of my user names on the Sign In box and my 4 different user names came up. Nothing had changed on my Google Chrome parameters. I noticed that the Google Chrome “Kill Pages” or “Wait” message seldom popped up on my screen. I was happy that I tried CCleaner program. Now, I can prepare more blog articles in a shorter period of time.

Quote for the Day:

“There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, and there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want. The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered.” (Proverbs 11:24-25)
