A browser or web browser is a free application software or program which one downloads from a website to one's computer hard drive to be used in accessing, retrieving and viewing web documents and other resources on the Internet.
There are several browsers available on the Internet. New browsers are being developed while there are old browsers that are being updated or completely discontinued. The most notable browsers nowadays are (in order of release):
Netscape Navigator and Netscape Communicator (October 13, 1994)
Internet Explorer 1 (August 16, 1995)
Mozilla Firefox (November 9, 2004)
Google Chrome (September 2, 2008)
RockMelt (November 8, 2010)
The main purpose of a browser is to search web information from the entire Internet and display the requested information, images, audio, video, links and any kind of content included in web pages on the computer screen. The browser will search the information based on the words and data that one types on the computer address bar or on the search engine box.
When I created my www.gohotmoney.com (a combination of a website and blog), I downloaded from the different browser websites the following browsers to my computer hard drive:
Google Chrome
Mozilla Firefox
Opera
Safari
The Internet Explorer was already installed when I bought my desktop computer and it was my default browser before I downloaded the other browsers.
The purpose of downloading and using 5 browsers is to view my gohotmoney.com web pages and find out how the web pages look in different browsing environment. For example: when I displayed my web pages on Google Chrome, they looked fine; but when I displayed the same web pages in Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Safari browsers, all the texts were small. What I did was to adjust my text font from 12 points to 14 points. By increasing the font size to 14 points, the texts looked 12 points in Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Safari browsers but looked 14 points in Google Chrome.
My reason for adjusting the text font from 12 to 14 points is to give my readers a pleasant and comfortable viewing experience. I do not want my readers to experience what I am encountering in reading small textual information wherein I have to enlarge the text or put my face closer to the computer screen. I do not assume that all my readers are computer savvy, literate and expert in tweaking the text size.
When I create a blog article, I activate my Google Chrome and Safari browsers at the same time. When I finish and upload my blog article, I display the article in both Google Chrome and Safari browsers. I read the blog article using the Safari browser. When there are errors on the article, I switch to Google Chrome browser to make the corrections, save and upload the article. Then, I switch to Safari browser, refresh the web page and re-read the article. By doing this technique , I minimize my time and effort in making changes on my blog articles if I am using at least 2 browsers.
At present, I am using Google Chrome as my default browser for the following reasons:
Is faster to access the Internet
Automatically restores the websites that I was working on when I turned off my computer
Pops up a message (Kill pages or Wait ) if a website is not responding
Shows all the Tabs (showing the websites I am working on) at the top the of the Address Bar
Allows me to access and use Google products such as Blogger.com, Gmail, Adsense, Ebooks, Keyword Tool, Web Analytics, News, Alerts and many more.
TIPS
1. Display the icons for Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari and your other favorite browsers in your desktop for easy uploading.
Quote for the Day:
In some mysterious way we cannot fully comprehend, Jesus Christ, the Creator of all things, personally identifies Himself with the poor. When we give to the poor, we are actually giving to Jesus
